Virginia Exits the California EV Way

Volvo has reversed its plan to exclusively produce electric vehicles by 2030, citing waning consumer demand for EVs, affordability issues, and concerns over charging infrastructure.

During a recent U.S. Department of Transportation meeting, significant safety concerns surrounding electric vehicle (EV) batteries were highlighted, including their potential to reignite after initial fires have been extinguished.

Ford said its EV business is on track to lose an eye-watering $5 billion this year alone. In the three-month period ending in June, the automaker lost about $44,000 on every electric vehicle it sold. That is not sustainable.

Ford’s recent decision to prioritize hybrid vehicles over a fully electric three-row SUV marks a significant challenge to the Biden-Harris administration’s aggressive push for electric vehicles (EVs). This shift signals doubts within the auto industry about the profitability and consumer demand for all-electric models, raising concerns about the feasibility of the administration’s mandates.

Congressional Republicans, led by Michigan Representative Tim Walberg, are pushing back against the Biden administration’s new Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards, which require automakers to achieve an average of 53.5 miles per gallon by 2032.
