New report indicates loss of patience with EV infrastructure

Electric vehicle (EV) adoption is facing growing skepticism due to several significant challenges, particularly around infrastructure. The lack of adequate public EV charging stations, especially in rural areas, and the slow charging speeds of many available chargers are fueling frustration among consumers. A 2024 J.D. Power report highlights increasing dissatisfaction with slow Level 2 chargers and instances of broken or out-of-service charging stations, leading to long wait times. Many EV owners experience range anxiety, fearing that they won’t find a functioning charging station in time, which detracts from the convenience and practicality of EVs.

Moreover, the cost of installing home chargers, particularly Level 2 systems, is a financial burden for many potential buyers, especially those in urban areas. The high costs associated with EVs, combined with the substantial quantities of rare materials needed for battery production, are further intensifying doubts about their long-term viability. Until these infrastructure issues are addressed, widespread EV adoption may continue to be hindered, leaving many consumers questioning whether the promised “green future” is worth the current hassle.
