Driving Force Action (DFA) has called on the United Steelworkers (USW) to rescind its endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris due to her campaign’s receipt of $50,000 from Stella Ke Li, a top executive at Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD. This donation aligns the Harris campaign with a company that not only holds direct links to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) but also poses a national security risk, according to U.S. authorities. The organization emphasizes that BYD’s competitive presence in the U.S. market could threaten American manufacturing jobs—particularly those traditionally supported by the USW.
DFA recently urged Harris to return the donation from BYD, arguing that by accepting contributions from a CCP-linked company, Harris undercuts her previous support for strengthening American manufacturing. DFA highlighted BYD’s documented CCP affiliations and government-supported involvement in military-adjacent technology, questioning how such connections align with American economic interests.
